Biographical/historical note

The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity was formed in 2011 when the Office for Equal Opportunity and the Office for Diversity and Inclusion merged to form a new office. The OIED comprises the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, the African American Cultural Center, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender (GLBT) Center, and the Women's Center. The OIED is committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and diverse intellectual and cultural campus experience related to the mission of North Carolina State University (https://diversity.ncsu.edu/mission-vision-and-goals/ accessed 6/12/2020).

The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) promotes an inclusive, accessible, and diverse environment on campus. It increases awareness of diversity issues through education and strengthens relationships across diverse groups. Through these efforts, the OIED prepares NC State students, faculty, and staff for local, state, national, and global collaboration.

Scope/content

The North Carolina State University, Office of the Provost, Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) Records include brochures, mailings, PowerPoints, training modules, meeting minutes, fact sheets, and various materials related to the activities of the OIED. The records also contain the Diversity Digest, a newsletter distributed by email that details upcoming workshops and events, news releases, pertinent links and resources, as well as the website of the OIED. Materials date from 1991–2018.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged by type of material and chronologically therein.

Access to the collection

Collection is open for research; access requires at least 48 hours advance notice. Because of the nature of certain archival formats, including digital and audio-visual materials, access will require additional advanced notice. Unless noted, digital media are not available online. Copies of unrestricted digital files will be provided for use in the SCRC Reading Room upon request. Access will be provided to use copies of unrestricted digital files rather than carrier media, such as CDs, DVDs, and floppy disks. Some or all electronic files may be unavailable or restricted due to privacy reasons, agreement with the donor, software is not available to interact with files, or because files cannot be retrieved from original media.

This collection may contain materials with sensitive or confidential information that is protected under federal or state right to privacy laws and regulations. Researchers are advised that the disclosure of certain information pertaining to identifiable living individuals represented in this collection without the consent of those individuals may have legal ramifications (e.g., a cause of action under common law for invasion of privacy may arise if facts concerning an individual's private life are published that would be deemed highly offensive to a reasonable person) for which North Carolina State University assumes no responsibility.
