Femininists for Animal Rights (FAR) was created in 1981 in California, and grew to a nationwide organization that was active into the 21st century. FAR was an ecofeminist alliance that combined feminism with animal advocacy. They raised awareness of abuse against women and animals as well as social injustices against the environment. They also advocated a vegan diet and lifestyle. FAR's network of women promoted their message through public speaking and a semiannual journal publication, "Feminists for Animal Rights."
